Descripci\u00f3n<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Espa\u00f1ol:<\/strong> Para muchas personas, M42, la “Gran Nebulosa de Ori\u00f3n”, es el objeto de espacio profundo favorito. Para m\u00ed, es M17, una peque\u00f1a nebulosa de emisi\u00f3n localizada en la regi\u00f3n norte de Sagitario. Algunos la llaman la “Nebulosa Omega”, debido al supuesto parecido que guarda con dicha letra griega. Sin embargo, nunca he podido discernir ese detalle en esta nebulosa. Otros, por su parte, ven en ella un cisne, un pato salvaje volando o, inclusive, una pistola. Sea lo que sea, la verdad es que esta nubecilla es espectacular, m\u00e1s a\u00fan si se observa con un filtro nebular (narrowband), que resalte la luz proveniente de los gases de este objeto.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Si la describimos de “afuera hacia adentro”, podemos decir que M17 se compone de varias capas de diferente luminosidad: hay una amplia zona de nebulosidad muy tenue (la cual se detecta mejor con un filtro), que es la que forma la figura completa del supuesto pato salvaje en vuelo. Luego, se distingue una zona central en forma de “marca de cotejo” (o “check mark”), que se divide en varias porciones, efecto que responde a zonas de material opaco en la misma nebulosa sobrepuestas a las \u00e1reas m\u00e1s brillantes. La m\u00e1s grande de esas zonas centrales es la m\u00e1s luminosa y alargada, y se distingue en ella una diminuta indentaci\u00f3n que nos hace recordar a la Nebulosa “Cabeza de Caballo”, en Ori\u00f3n.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

El dibujo que se incluye es una representaci\u00f3n compuesta, en tanto que me tom\u00f3 varias observaciones en diferentes d\u00edas para terminarla, usando varios oculares distintos: la parte brillante de la nebulosidad la dibuj\u00e9 usando el ocular de 6 mm (127x) y el de 8.8 mm (87x). Seguido, emple\u00e9 el ocular de 8.8 mm y el filtro “narrowband” para dibujar las regiones m\u00e1s tenues. Finalmente, us\u00e9 ese mismo ocular sin filtro para dibujar las estrellas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

El \u00e1rea m\u00e1s tenue de este complejo generalmente es identificada como IC 4707.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

English: <\/b>For many people, M42, the Great Orion Nebula is their favorite deep sky object. For me, it’s M17, a small emission nebula located in the northern region of Sagittarius. Some amateur astronomers call it the Omega Nebula because its resemblance to that Greek letter. However, I have never discerned such figure. Others see a swan, a wild duck flying, or even a gun. Whatever it is, the truth is this little nebula is spectacular, especially if you observe it with nebular filter (narrowband) to highlight its gas emissions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If we describe M17 from “outside-in”, we can say that it is composed of several layers of gas of different brightness. First, there is a large area of \u200b\u200bvery subtle nebulosity (best detected with a filter), which supposedly forms the figure of a wild duck in flight. Then, there is a central region resembling a check mark, which is divided into several parts, an effect that responds to areas of darker material in the same nebula overlapping brighter zones. The largest of these central spots is also the brightest and more elongated; it has a tiny indentation that reminds me of a miniature version of the Horsehead Nebula in Orion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sketch is a composite picture, since it took me several observing sessions on different days to finish it. I also used several eyepieces: the brightest part of the nebula was drawn using a 6 mm (127x) and an 8.8 mm (87x) eyepieces. I used the 8.8 mm eyepiece coupled with a narrowband filter to draw the fainter regions. Finally, I used that same eyepiece with no filter to draw the stars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The faintest region in this object is usually identified as IC 4707.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cometarios de Messier en 1771:<\/strong> La misma noche, descubr\u00ed a poca distancia del c\u00famulo de estrellas del cual vengo de hablar, un rastro de luz de cinco a seis minutos de grado de extensi\u00f3n, en forma de huso y aproximadamente como aquella de la cintura de Andr\u00f3meda; pero de una luz muy d\u00e9bil, no conteniendo ninguna estrella; se ven dos juntas que son telesc\u00f3picas y localizadas paralelamente al ecuador: en un [p. 443] buen cielo se distingue muy bien esta nebulosa con un anteojo ordinario de 3 pies y medio. Determin\u00e9 su posici\u00f3n en ascensi\u00f3n recta de 271\u00b0 45′ 48″ y su declinaci\u00f3n de 16\u00b0 14′ 44″ meridional.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Comentarios de Messier en 1783:<\/strong> Rastro de luz sin estrellas, de cinco a seis minutos de extensi\u00f3n, en forma de huso, y un poco como aquella de la cintura de Andr\u00f3meda, pero de una luz bien d\u00e9bil; tiene dos estrellas telesc\u00f3picas juntas y localizadas paralelamente al ecuador. Bajo un buen cielo se percibe muy bien esta nebulosa con un anteojo ordinario de tres pies y medio. Vuelta a ver el 22 de marzo de 1781.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
